The world of deep fakes
I wanted to give thanks this week to all of our parents for your constant support with what we are doing here at Logic. We do not take for granted the lengths that you go to in working with us to ensure your child is supported to be successful here. From phone calls around engagement, to chasing up on absences and everything you do outside of school on top of this, we are hugely thankful of your support. Trusting each other and working together allows us to make a difference every day.
Recruitment for next year is looking strong across both Year 10 and Year 12. There are still places available in both cohort, so if you are aware of somebody that might benefit from being part of Logic please do let them know. Word of mouth means a lot when it comes to school recommendations.
We are just putting the final touches on plans for our next personal development week. We hope to have these out through the next week so please keep an eye out.
If you have not already seen the insulting Deep Fake AI video ‘Trump Gaza’ please do not go out searching for it, simply trust me when I say watching it will bring no good to anyone. The sad fact that this was promoted by many that appear in the video is a damning inditement of the world we live in.
I do, however, want to draw your attention to the challenges that many of us now face from AI manipulation. What is now possible to achieve through the use of a still image and an AI engine is quite frankly terrifying. It appears that full blown videos can now be created and manipulated from a single image. Though we are yet to find ourselves in a situation where students are using these services against one another, it is a possibility that this many be an issue we face in the not too distant future.
I wanted to take this opportunity to remind parents (and students) of the consequences of such actions. It is against our social media policy for images of any member of the school community to be taken and used in anyway (AI or otherwise). Any actions that are seen as damaging or defamatory will not be tolerated and will be sanctioned in line with our behaviour policy.
As I say, we are yet to find ourselves in a situation where we have had to take such action, but we must be alert to what is now possible in the modern world.
